A year like 2003 doesn't wash down easy, it finds you when you're most thirsty and you drink and you drink and you suck it down your windpipe by mistake. You cough and some of it even gets up into your nose which tickles a bit and then the tears appear.

No - with the war, and the fear, and lost love, this year was one of the stiffest drinks yet to pass these here lips. Like a damn whiskey shiver it was.

And though Cat Power's You Are Free seemed to save my life every other week this year, my Top 5 didn't go by way of the BBC's wimpy Christmas #1 (I so wanted The Darkness to win!)...I've had it, for now, with the slowly and the heavy mellow.

I wanted more uh that buhdunkadunkdunk...so, here 'tis:
