Casey Desmond
No Disguise
self-released

Casey Desmond has a stunning voice and knows how to use it on her new record. She makes poppy rock with imaginative touches and shows an unusual maturity for one so young.

"Rise" is a strident track that recalls Evanescence without the melodrama. "Julia Butterfly Hill" is about an environmental activist with that name and is affecting and atmospheric. Desmond really challenges herself here. "The Ocean" is sweet and underplayed, a moment of peace and longing well captured. The album is even and solid even if it sometimes plays it a little too safe. Still, Casey Desmond has enough talent to make it all worthwhile.
