David Bowie
Lazarus
Columbia Records

Here's the teaser for the new album Blackstar that will be released 8 January next year, the very same day that our man celebrates his 69th birthday. The song slips carefully into the ears with slow tempo, discreet guitar and melancholic saxes at the start. Not bad, at least as good as anything he released during the 1990s onwards. But as the song progresses and grow powerful, so does the sax. After four minutes and some seconds starts a jazzy solo that doesn't quite fit my liking. Afterwards the song fizzles out with guitar noodling into nothingness, apart from a tough power chord. I'd have awaited Blackstar with more eagerness if "Lazarus" had been two minutes shorter.
