May McDonough and Company
Spilt Milk
Self-released

May McDonough and her band play vibrant, utterly engaging music on this album. "Riverside" is a smoky, cabaret-ish song with a vampy lead vocal and a trombone bit that's stirring. "Your Body" is a lovely song with a stunning vocal. McDonough and her band are truly versatile and this is a good showcase for them.

"House of Bones" is a suitably macabre composition that they truly deliver with seasoned menace. It works well and enthralls the listener; its fractured blues is wholly original. "Red Tag Nation" sees the band indulge in their rockier side and they handle it well too. McDonough's vocal is utterly assured and it's a great song. It's a stunning album that demands attention.
