Tori Sparks
The Scorpion in the Story
Glass Mountain Records

Tori Sparks attempts to discuss something about human nature on her ambitious new album, and she makes soulful rock with some nice songs.

"Blue Tattoo" has a slight Americana undertone, and a great poetic lyric that she delivers well. "Days and Days and Nights" is a country song that sees Sparks summon up some of her inner Lucinda Williams for a cool song. The soulful tone is one she's made for. "Elephant in the Room" is a soft tune with sharp words. Sparks handles this well, and sings like an angel. "Tiger's Mouth" sees her tackle a song with a great deal of finesse, even as she puts sharp emphasis on the difficulty of staying with someone. It's an appealing and intriguing listen.
