Headless Heroes
The Silence of Love
Names Records/Fargo Records

Everybody's doing cover albums now, but Headless Heroes do it good on this record. Rising star Alela Diane and her men create an intimate, folksy record from others' material and it works.

<>"True Love Will Find You In The End" by Daniel Johnston gets an elegiac yet hopeful treatment with an angelic lead vocal. The Jesus and Mary Chain's "Just Like Honey" is sweetened and Diane's vocal is just beguiling against the bright melody. "Blues Run the Game" is recorded softly, in a very English folk sort of a way, Diane's vocal accentuating the sadness of the lyrics. Nick Cave's "Nobody's Baby Now" is just as respectfully and sweetly delivered. Headless Heroes don't take a lot of your time, at thirty-three minutes you're left wanting much more.
