Hydra
Hidden Shoal Recordings

"Hydra" is the first single from the Seattle/New York based sci-fi pop band Hotels sophomore album Where Hearts Go Broke. And even if the title suggests dark emotions, it seems they may have left the almost gothic synth rock on their first album for a more surf pop sound. At least on this charming single.

Hotels have on "Hydra" taken the disco from New York and the surf from the west coast, and blended it with some new wave elements. The result is a delightful piece of pop music. It is catchy, sophisticated and romantic, just as a song telling about doomed love should be.

The fact that their album's release is on Valentines Day (February 14th), a day which I by the way have little to no relation to, may make my view of that day change completely...
