Battlefield Band
The Road of Tears
Temple Records

Battlefield Band hails from Scotland and has been playing their traditional music for a few decades now. Their new record sees them continue without frills but with a great vivacity.

"The Emigrant" tells of an Irishman who has emigrated to the U.S and is forced to fight in the Civil war. Sean O'Donnell handles the sad tale well and the experienced band inhabits the song completely. "The Slave's Lament" is by the great Robert Burns and Alan Reid does it justice. The album's theme of emigrant songs takes many different approaches to the theme and treats the source material with great respect. This is a great record.
