Cool label Monika celebrate 40 releases. The label was founded by punk icon Gudrun Gut in order to 2expand the female voice of music". On this compilation we find Afghani all-girl band Burka Band's "Burka Blue" amongst many other things.

The artless Belle and Sebastian gone electro stylings of Figurine and the vixens Cobra Killer weigh in also. Florida's oddly twee "The Girl on the Escalator" rubs shoulders with Masha Qrella's melancholy "I want you to know".

Monika is an odd but charming label, long may it live.
