Making a Living
Innit Records

Eleveneses are made up of Karen Haines (known as Jenny Sparks on this record) and Ian Evans. The music is unusual and sparsely played. Quirky song titles like "Lonely Mermaid" and "Plastic Woman" tells us something of their lyrical concerns. This record is compelling and odd, but the lo-fi nature of the recording is sometimes obvious. The vocals can be a bit too low in the mix and some more musical embellishments like strings wouldn't go amiss.

Still, the band's talents come shining through clearly enough to make it a compelling debut anyway. From the campy horror of "Killer brain" to the early Kate Bush stylings of the title track their gifts are in place.
